Ryan is an artist from Lodi, WI and also a cancer survivor. In 1990, at the age of 3, Ryan was diagnosed with "Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma" in his upper right arm. He underwent 14 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation. At that time, very little was known about this type of cancer, which affects males under the age of 10.
At about 6 years old, Ryan started his pencil drawings and then later did a lot of ink drawings. In his early school years, he struggled with learning. At age 11, he was diagnosed with Autism/ASD.
In 2008, a member of our church asked Ryan to make a large poster for a United Way fundraiser and she also introduced Ryan to his now mentor, Lance Owens at Artworking Studio in Madison. As Lance worked with Ryan, he discovered not only could Ryan draw in 3D but that he had a gift for abstract painting and lover to draw animals. Ryan's animal paintings have been sent to California, Tennessee, Idaho, and Pennsylvania.
